I recently had the privilege of hosting a trip to the upper Rio Parana for 6 days of golden dorado, pira pita and pacu fishing. The river was extremely high due to heavy rains in Brazil, but that didn’t seem to deter the dorado from displaying their characteristic acrobatics. Trying to capture jumps on camera is almost, and i repeat, almost, as much fun as having the rod in hand, but you can’t have your cake and eat it too.

Migratory Brown

Late season on the rivers around Bariloche is arguably one of the best places in the world to look for trophy brown trout, which drop down from the lakes and reservoirs en masse to spawn.  Over the last couple weeks I’ve been fortunate enough to fish with expert local guides and friends such as Willy Ricigliano, Juan Cruz, Mariano Wainstein and Nico and Alex Trochine.  The fishing for these migratory fish isn’t easy, and we’ve been skunked more times than we’d like to admit. But the rewards are worth the effort.
